Are You Underpaid?

One question I see a lot from corporate career women is: How can I tell if I’m underpaid?

Here are 3 steps you can take to find out:

  1. Assess your current contributions. Dig up your current job description & add any additional skills / responsibilities you’ve gained since it was written. (If you don’t have a current job description, you can create one by writing down all of your current skills and responsibilities.)

  2. Research comparable roles. Find 5+ comparable job postings (using sites like Indeed, Monster, LinkedIn, etc.) and pay attention to the titles they’re using to describe your current level of contribution.

  3. Research salaries based on your current level of contribution. Use an online database (like Glassdoor’s Know Your Worth tool, the online database from the US Dept. of Labor’s Bureau of Labor and Statistics, or PayScale’s What Am I Worth? tool) to determine a fair salary range in line with your current experience and responsibilities.
